Shall We Dance
posed some very provocative questions:

IS THERE ALTOGETHER TOO MUCH TRANSPARENCY EMERGING IN THE WORLD?

IS YOUR SENSIBILITY FRAGMENTING FROM OVERABUNDANT VENTILATION?.

DO YOU FIND THE DISSOLUTION OF BORDERS BETWEEN DISCIPLINES AND THE DISINTEGRATION OF BIPOLAR THINKING DISCONCERTING?

IS NOSTALGIA RACING YOU TO TOUCH DOWN?

DO YOU YEARN FOR THE COMPANY OF ADA LOVELACE, CHARLES BABBAGE AND/OR NICHOLA TESLA? ARE YOU SUDDENLY ADDICTED TO TANGIBLE THINGS AS OPPOSED TO THE NATURE OF TANGIBILITY ITSELF?

DOES THE SOUND OF IDIOSYNCRATIC VERNACULAR STRIKE TERROR IN YOUR HEART?

DO YOU HEAR YOUR OWN DISEMBODIED VOICE CALLING OUT?

DO YOU LONG TO BE AUTONOMOUS WITHOUT BECOMING INVISIBLE?

R. Elden

I find transparency to be what one would make of it. If it be transparency as in a false mask...or the transparency of light. Is either good or bad? Absolutely not, I don't exercise nor am I into YOGA! How did you think of these questions? Have you recently been in recovery, Adrianne? In the years which I have been upon this planet I find nostalgia often leaves a bad taste in ones mouth, much like the bitter fruit of lost love. Nostalgia has touched down and soon will the aliens. Only when I cannot reach Dear Abby. Do you mean tangible as in drugs or tangible as in sex? I'm sorry I thought you meant "physical!" Actually it does. How do you know and understand such things? I hear the audocratic terror from the disenfranchised voices (which were once inside my head but now have been released to the universe) scream into the night. It is a wearying and simplistic wailing much like that of the women who were at Tutankhamen's side as he was laid to rest. No.

Annick Bureaud

Transparency means something you can see through. I see more and more things to see but no windows. My sensibility is getting richer and richer but my personnality is getting more and more fragmented At last ! I find myself coherent again, although this is in total contradiction with the fragmentation or may be not. I can put the fragments together Nostalgia is pulling you backward and I hate that I would have loved to meet Ada Could someone help with tangibility ? What is it ? The only tangible thing I know is that I will die some day No fear, no terror, life I was born in the same country as Joan of Arc but I never heard voices myself Being autonomous IS being visible

Robbin Murphy

No.

What's emerging is more possibilities for interconnectivity, which some mistake for transparency. Truth reveals itself in excess/access.

.My sensibility has always been fragmented. I was reared in a zen-influenced Jesuitical liberal arts environment with strictly defined borders. I see the borders becoming more visible, but that doesn't mean they are disolving. Either/or strategies may be on the upswing as people struggle to defend their territories. Certainty can be comforting. No. I never played football and I avoid the sentimental. No. I've had erotic daydreams about Alexander the Great however... I've become aware that the concept of "virtuality" should include the concept of the "tangible". And vice versa. Group think always scares me. No. I'm more centered than ever in my body. Like Epicurus I'm walling myself up in my garden and distributing my image on the outside. I'm not an entertainer and I don't perform in public.

I am approaching autonomous invisibility.

~In an era of Orwellian NewSpeak, this alleged transparency looks lik emendacious opacity to me. ~No, my sensibility is intact; it's my mind that's fragmenting from an >overwhelming info- and work-load. ~No, I want to merge my right and left brains. ~No, I'm not Bob Dole. ~No, never even had cocktails with them. ~I don't really get the question. ~Au contraire, it brings pleasure. ~Yes, I crane my neck and get a pain from hearing my own and global >history calling. No. I want to be the powerful and proverbial fly on the wall.

Marjorie Luesebrink

Oh, yes, but you can't see it unless you hang upside down.... . A fragmented sensibility is a joy forever. A stone sensibility is not to be wished for. It never even looked bi-polar to me in the first place, since the negative side of the pole was given no power....if man/woman were equal ends of the see-saw, it would have been a different world altogether. If "left" were as important as "right" from the beginning, maybe we wouldn't have goien to this pass, eh? As it stands, the disintegration of uni-directional thinking in some quarters is laudable.... Yes. and it's the best kind of chase. If nostalgia is, as Buckminster Fuller said, a longing for behavior that no longer provides any adaptive advantage, I'm all for it. Play is nostalgic. It's always a piece of cake to have company you want from the past. Easier to read Tesla than to talk to Mel Gibson. There is a spirit that can laugh and clap hands, and even so, I see it liking to visit the tangible landscape. It is in the instantiation of physical reality that the joy lies, not in the abstract fact of tangibility. Be here now. Well, like, I don't know what you mean. It's like this kinda. When you, like, want to talk about something, and like, you can't, like, it makes it hard and all, like it's kinda wierd. So I don't try, like. Oh dear, it's the commiieeeee in my head again. No, that's not disembodied. That's em-bodied. It's the banshee from the river boiom? Only late at night when I can't get on-line. Well, I am invisible, so now I need to become autonomous. Visibility is Elizabeth Taylor, a person who in media-res-multiplication manages to live 9 lives. Visibility is The President, who performs daily temple abolutions in front of the masses. Visibility is having 20 billion dollars so you can virtually live and breathe and run people around in twenty locations on the globe. Visibility is Oprah living everyone else's life every afternoon. Were we trying to link visibility with autonomy?

Heather Wagner

No more than usual.

It's good, though, you can see the other side beier.

Sensibility is fine.

I seem to have absorbed a national obsession for more bandwidth, though

Let's embrace bitropical thinking. I can't remember.

I have an inexplicably profound longing for the present.

I have made love with each of them on the banks of the grand canal.
Oh.
Wait.
No I haven't.

I would like to borrow Nikola Tesla's shoes. They are fire proof.
. . . . I sometimes think so.
And then I look wistfully toward the horizon.
And I see my cat in my peripheral vision, and he is snoring.
And sometimes my modem picks up strange frequencies.

Yes. -----No.
The distortion between what the mainstream media reports and reality is not nearly transparent enough. See: hip:// www.uic.edu/ ~lauramd/countermec

Where are you?

I can't see you.

Only when something smelly hits the fan. I have an extremely sensitive nose.

Mostly, my sensibility is fragmenting from being misunderstood, which happens quite often, probably due to my fragmented way of speaking.

Click here for a multimedia answer. I would love to see you soon, Adrianne! We have known each other for a long time and we are old friends.. Sob, sob. . I am proudly addicted to my addictions which luckily seem to augment in every sense as I get older. Soon there will just be addictions left in my life. . . .

Transparency has its virtues. It's as much a strategy as anything else... Well, this one I don't get.... sorry. Guess I just don't hyperventilate enough.. Not at all -- quite the opposite. Borders between disciplines can be looked at as power plays. Borders in most forms are artificial anyhow. Lines in the sand are washed away by the waves. Thought and images transcend borders. Art and technology aren't separate beings except if you want them to be. Not really. touch down to what? the past? That's over! The future's what's really exciting to me. ~ Yes, or any reasoned and reasonable thinking being. There's too much mindless or pretentious fluff "out there." . Ummmm..... Yikes!!! Well, not often...... Yes, yes, I said, yes! Autonomy with visibility is heaven, with invisibility, what does it all mean???

Doesn't think so. No.

These days it's all secrecy and no privacy........ from Fingerprint File by the Rolling Stones. . . Nostalgia in a media saturated world doesn't exist. That's because everything is documented and exists in the present. There is no rosy memory. I just finished reading Bruce Sterling & William Gibson's book , The Difference Engine. From our great technological height we like to look back at the transition point between the natural world and the beginnings of the man/machine interphase. I personally like the image of a steam powered railroad car being aiacked by indians on horseback or the posed photographs of Native Americans by E.S. Curtis. Tesla of course is every techno-artists archetype bouncing high energy fields through the atmosphere and burning up the Russian tundra from Upstate New York. Whatchoomean b'dat?
Yo. Understand home.
Media preserves the event perfectly. Frozen forever in the present. We don't dare have an emotion. We must only respond according to the given media stimulus. We cry when the music swells. We jump at the grating staccato. We take drugs so we can manipulate our internal script. We salivate at pictures of food and desire endless sexual congress with each lingerie add or underwear event. .
