Sunday morning (Happy Bastille Day!)

...AND I NOTICED YOU'RE READING DESCARTES...ALWAYS A SURE ROAD TO AMORAL UTILITARIANSIM!

Nothing like putting on a jacket and tie in hot muggy weather then find out I didn't really need to because the Athletic Club doesn't serve on the weekends during the summer which we would have known if we were "the right kind of people" because anybody who is anybody is out at their country place on the weekend during the summer.

Ended up having a nice Italian dinner at Fontana di Trevi, a restaurant I remember liking but that Merv never takes me to anymore. Well, he should start since I got it out of him that his father's estate was nearly a million dollars. I'm sure that kind of money could lead to a lot of amoral utilitarianism.

Now that he as a "weekend place" we can all look forward to being invited to do menial labor on the weekends in return for a little rest and relaxation. The barn he keeps saying would make a wonderful studio doesn't have electricity and isn't winterproof so I think by the time I could take advantage of it I'll have money of my own to buy a "weekend place."

Merv got your postcard and had it displayed significantly on the table next to the couch. We all have to be careful now because he's making a list and checking it twice as to who is really his friend and deserving of his grace.

Tried to go out last night and have fun but I've come to the conclusion that fun may be out of the question and that all we can hope for is to be mildly amused and entertained.

Paul had another spinal tap that didn't show anything (though I'm not sure what it's suppose to show) and I'll head off shortly to see how he's doing. Pretty bad yesterday but Mark said his temperature was down to 101 when he left last night. He's always been 99 or 100 anyway.

Article in the Times "Farts and Seizure" section about those wild and crazy types from the Northwest: Gus Van Sant, Lynda Barry, David Lynch, Gary Larson, Tom Robbins, Katherine Dunn, Matt Groening, Thomas Pynchon, Me. They forgot those crazy guys Edward R. Morrow and Clifford Still and of course Deb Gilbert. You can still visit the grave of Jimi Hendrix in Seattle.

The article claims it is the wet dreary weather that influences all of them but Spokane isn't dreary at all but has more sun than any other place in the U.S. There was even a map of Washington and Oregon that has the town of Goldendale where millionaire Sam Hill built a castle and filled it with Rodin drawings and a full-scale replica of Stonehenge.
