THE LOST MINE
Is just off Highway 58--at the intersections of the old Tehachepi Train line and the San Andreas fault. It is near the site of one of the largest Earthquakes ever recorded in California. When George Summerland ventures to Tehachepi to recover his share of a lost stash of gold, he finds an intersection he hadn't anticipated. As he is boarding the train, for the return trip to Los Angeles, there is an accident. One of those train tragedies. The brakeman, glimpsing a particularly pretty wench, is distracted from his post and lets the train escape. So, was it the fault of the hapless brakeman? Or was it foul play? Or was it an earthquake? It is lightning on the tracks--the warning signal along the way--for Summerland is one of us: fixed on the California Main Chance. What could he expect? |
