January 22, 1883--We have just word today about the wreck of the train to Los Angeles coming out of the Tehachepi Station. It is a powerful tragedy.
But the horror is not over for us.
Twenty-two corpses have been identified. I went to Evergreen to see. They were very badly burned, but George was not among them. What shall we do?
George was seen on the boarding platform on the night of the 20th. I was visited today by a man from town, a Mr. Vineyard, his name. He has offered to go to Tehachepi to search. I paid him two dollars as I cannot leave the children and the weather is bad.
Sent for father.
